LinkedIn Rolls Out Live Video Streaming – Ignite Friday


this week I have some really awesome
stuff to cover if you watch this whole video you’re gonna be a better marketer
some really important things towards the end so the first thing is you can now go
live on LinkedIn so if you want to you can go live make sure you know what
you’re gonna say first so you don’t just freeze without anything to say that’s
important next thing that happened is there was a Google update a couple of
days ago on the 13th so if you saw some fluctuations that is totally normal
because al guru and Moz cast these ranking tracking tools they they tranq
they track fluctuations and rankings are showing some decent amount of weather
there so update we don’t have a lot of information on that yet but once we do
know we will definitely tell you next thing is Google comes out in this
says there’s no penalty for internal linking over internal linking so if
you’ve got a million page website you’ve got 1 million pages pointing towards one
page for a term like auto loan and you’re clearly trying to manipulate the
search engines Google does not care about that there so there is no penalty
for that and Google is also now they’re getting
rid of Google+ right Google+ is going away so what that means is now they’re
sending out notifications and if you take one thing away from this video
remember this you need to go on your website and remove the link to Google+
because that is gonna be taken down and Google click there’s a plane going over
that’s okay just ignore it there’s a there’s basically a link that’s going
from your website there and then that’s gonna be broken and it’s not gonna exist
anymore okay so make sure that you take care of that also other things that are
happening is Google is testing three to six videos in search results as kind of
the main thing that’s being shown and I think that’s really important right
everybody should have a video marketing strategy right now you know text is
still incredibly important but if you’re gonna write a blog on something or if
you’re gonna write an article on something or create a webpage on
something create a video on it to a video that further sells that it
provides more information because Google in some cases they’re just showing a
whole bunch of video right there front and center and if
that’s the case then you’re gonna want to optimize a video as well right okay
so other things that are going on are this a new company comes out and they’re
called adjust and they’re coming out with a new way to basically find out who
is creating the fraudulent clicks on your ad so ad fraud ad click fraud is a
big thing you know for instance if I wanted to go to all my competitors and
just Google a bunch of terms and click on their ads over and over and over
again I can do that I would never do that because I’m an honest guy but other
people would for sure and they do do that out there so now this company a
just out of Berlin is coming out with a way to find out who that person was so
you can look more into that next thing is Google my business is offering a new
way to respond to reviews this is not the most exciting thing in the world
basically now you can reply via the desktop version on Google Maps opposed
to just being able to reply via your phone or the app which you could do
before next Google comes out and they say that a great score on web com well
to me web dev web dev is a site that they have that evaluates certain things
within a website for Google so there John Mueller came out he said if you got
a great score on web dev that doesn’t mean that you’re gonna rank really well
in the search engines it just means that you’re doing best practices next is a
report comes out that says that paid search grew 10% year of a year and I’ve
been seeing that this really interesting trend a lot more people putting money
into google shopping and then paid searches a flattish kind of down in
comparison I was looking at a study on that yesterday but basically we saw that
growth was the highest and financial than the retail sectors and that really
makes sense because we have a lot of financial clients here and when I first
started working with financial clients it’s been a while now right it’s you
know 10 10 years or so but a couple years ago when I first started working
with newer ones when we started ignite you know six years ago we saw that they
a lot of they didn’t really understand the value
of paid search they weren’t really investing in paid search they didn’t
understand the business model they were used to other types of advertising right
TV video or TV and video those type of things radio you know offline
advertising now they’re seeing that and so these these banks are coming in
investing a lot of money financial institutions it’s important part of all
their business models and whatnot so I’m seeing a lot of that stuff there if you
want to find out more there was definitely growth in education
as well and then in in some other sectors also next thing is Google says
just stick to the SEO basics and you’ll be fine so coming out saying if you
stick with the basics you’re gonna be in a good spot but you know I just feel
like in a lot of cases Google is kind of downplaying all the cool things that you
can do in SEO when you’re working with like somebody who really knows what
they’re doing the basics really aren’t always enough that being said if you’re
doing linking creating great content and you’re technically correct you’re
probably gonna be in a pretty good spot next Google comes out and they say that
the H hreflang tag is not a ranking signal if you don’t know what the H
graph link tag is basically what it allows you to do is map certain pages
together and say that this is the English version for the US this is the
English version for the UK this is the Spanish version for Spain etc right so
you can map different sites and pages and subdomains whichever option you
choose and then that allows it to display in the correct version of Google
so href Lang tag really important we do a lot of that stuff here but they’re
saying it’s not a ranking signal which is kind of ridiculous because what
they’re saying is it’s not gonna make you rank higher but in reality it is a
ranking signal because it tells Google that you should be ranking in a certain
version of Google so anyways next thing is LinkedIn comes out and they say 40%
of members visit the site every day that’s pretty crazy
and it’s probably true because I visit the site a lot I absolutely love
LinkedIn there’s so many smart people on there sharing knowledge get to connect
with peers or you know whoever and anyway so people are really finding a
lot of I’ll you with it and it’s just a great
site they’re doing a very good job Google Ads rolls out clickshare metric
to search campaigns so Google’s giving us a new metric that we didn’t have
before and clickshare shows you how many clicks your ads received out of the
total number of times that Google estimates your ad could have been
clicked that’s kind of interesting so how many times your ad could have been
clicked and how many you actually got that’s better than just impressions to
click I think because it really shows you what that margin should have been
and you don’t have to guess at what the click-through rates could or should have
been they are telling you that so that’s the digital marketing news this week
