Content marketing is a marketing
approach focusing on the creation and distribution of valuable and relevant
content to connect with target audiences and drive profitable actions, you can
learn more about what content is in our online guide. This interactive workbook
will help you work through your own content strategy step by step following
the SOSTAC framework. Let’s get started. The SOSTAC structure is a popular
planning framework in the marketing world and can be broken down into
situation analysis, objectives, strategy tactics, actions and control. Start with
situation analysis where are you now? Think about who your competitors are and
list down all of your strengths. Think about how you can react to what your
competitors are doing that you’re currently not. Consider what
opportunities there are for your business this could be anything from
your products working well on Instagram to already having a strong email
database then think about what you can do to utilise these. Next up think about
your threats and how you can turn these into opportunities and actions
brainstorm these lists into the boxes provided. Now it’s time for your
objectives remember to make these smart specific, measurable, achievable, relevant
and time-bound. List out a few focus objectives into the boxes on the right.
Next comes the strategy part define who your target audience is and what their
questions and concerns could include, what questions might they be asking
about your product or even industry? Also define what your mission is what is the
purpose of your business? How can you help answer these questions and concerns?
Now it’s time to get creative. Use the two columns to brainstorm some content
ideas and their formats, start by thinking about those questions and
concerns, what content could you produce to answer these? Now you have some great
content ideas consider what channels you are going to use to publish and then
promote your content. Tick and fill in the most relevant ones to your business
thinking about owned media, the channels you own and control, earned media the
channels where you’ve earned your place and paid media the channels you pay for.
Next up are your actions, what are you going to do to achieve the above and how? Think about what tasks will help you create and distribute your
great new content when you’re going to do them by and who’s responsible. It’s
really important to measure your actions here you can use the popular reach, act,
convert and engage framework to define what you are going to measure to know if
you’ve been successful. For reach think about how people are reaching your
business. Act, are you leading potential customers to take actions? Convert, are
you converting potential customers into actual customers? And engage, think about
how you’re engaging with customers who have already made a purchase. And that’s
it, by simply following these stages you’ll have your very own content
marketing strategy created in no time. You can always go back and change and
update any of these stages in the future so don’t be afraid to get stuck in and
note down all your thoughts and ideas. You can either print this guide or save
as a PDF by clicking print and PDF in Chrome or save as in Explorer. Good luck!
