Blue Streak Broadcast November 2019

Hello Lake Elementary I’m Olivia
My name is Evan I’m Adela my name is Gracie, Tristen is mine
Ava here, it’s me Nathaniel and I’m Taylor and welcome back to the Blue Streak Broadcast, so let’s get started, what? were you listening at all? no! let’s just get
started go Browns! hello I’m Ava and we have decided to
take a poll to find which cafeteria food you like best I’m Mia and I’m wondering
if you like the Domino’s Pizza at the French toast sticks or the walking tacos
guys here and we wanted to take this poll because on some days that they are
serving these items more of you guys buy and sometimes not so much of you guys
buy we wanted to see we wanted to find out which cafeteria food do you like
best we posted that poll on Google classroom
and have your teachers asked you to vote for which one you like more yesterday
we review the results in 26% of you chose the walking tacos and 55% chose
the Domino’s pizza and the other 17% chose the French toast sticks that means
most of you like Domino’s Pizza more than walking taco and french toast
sticks Wow who would have thought, hey if I’m being
honest I voted for the Domino’s Pizza, speaking
of poll we all have that special book that we love to read over and over
we want to know what yours is including you teachers whether it’s a book of
poems or graphic novel there will be a link in your teachers Google classroom
all you have to do is click on that link and answer the questions if you just
can’t pick one take all the ones you like then we will tally up the votes and
tell you the top three books from each grade in our next we shape flag cast I’m
sure you’ll find your favorite books in your Google Forms, if not type your
favorite in the other option make sure you’re serious with your answers so we
do not give the wrong data for your grade that means not cooking the answers
unless you actually mean it only cementing one form
this form could also show the librarians what books we need in the library so be
honest some of the choices will be Diary Wimpy Kid Percy Jackson Magic Treehouse
and Harry Potter my favorite is banned this book you
cannot pick a book just because you like the movie in order to choose a book you
have to read it first don’t feel pressured by your friends and
pick a book you don’t like in the section labeled other do not put a movie
if you do your belt will not count also please do not put ‘I don’t like to read
anything’ in the other option or your vote will be counted and if you do and if it
shows up multiple times it’ll be put on the top three for your grade making you
want to bring it even more in class we want to know what you like to read over
and over, hello Lake Elementary are you looking for somewhere to go on vacation
well we have the perfect place to go have you ever thought about cook Forrest
cook Forest is a perfect place to go do you know why oh I will just tell you why
cook Forrest is the perfect place to go because you can choose if you want to go
deep in the forest or not even in the forest you can bring campers or a tent
there are real bathrooms and there are always nice people that cook Forrest
also I cook Forrest you can do so many fun activities like snipe hunting hiking
going in the river climbing the fire tower making your own
fire and so much more it is really amazing how beautiful cook Forrest is
today we are going to introduce you to Mr. Cooey some people have already met
him if some of you have not for those who haven’t
let us tell you a little bit about him Mr. Cooey is one of the many amazing band directors at Lake Elementary and he’s a lot of fun
so Mr. Cooey our first question is how long have you been a band director so
far I’ve been a band director for 20 years Wow long time what’s your favorite
part about being a band out there without question it’s working with the
students they make it fun to come to school they’re who I look forward to and
music is one way I get to interact with them how many instruments do you play
Mr. Cooey well my main instrument is the trumpet when you’re in college as a band
director you have to learn how to play all of the instruments that are in being
but since I’m a trumpet which is a brass instrument I’m best at the brass
instruments like trumpet trombone French horn baritone and tuba what’s your
favorite instrument to play and why to play well I guess since I grew up
playing the trumpet I’d have to say that one I love listening to a really good
French horn – that’s one of my favorite instruments listen – what’s your
favorite memory from being a band director at Lake oh boy well 20 years
there’s a lot of memories for sure I would probably have to say you know
every four years we take the band to Disneyworld at the high school Dan and
so we’ve made a lot of great memories on those trips down to Disneyworld
so I’d probably say something from that Mr. Cooey thank you for taking the time
to talk to us today it’s been great getting to know you better and maybe
this will encourage people to be in band yeah I’m talking to you grades 2-4
or maybe you taught the fifth and sixth graders something that didn’t know
hopefully you’ll consider band when it’s your time to choose a music program
maybe if you’re lucky and in the right place at the right time you might see
Mr. Cooey in the hallway if you do be sure to wave and say hi and now let’s
hear more about music at Lake Elementary here at LE we’re lucky to have
band choir and orchestra we’d like to tell you about choir. the choir room is
located in Miss Shaub’s music room right next to the cafeteria and in choir you do
many different things like singing reading music and doing warm-ups at the
beginning of each prior class we do warm-ups warm-ups help us hit any high
notes that we have to hit and any long notes that we have to hold wow that’s
impressive In choir you split up into two different groups, soprano and alto. Alto sings the lower notes and soprano sings higher notes we have two different
choir concerts a spring one and a Christmas one we hope you can come watch
one of our concerts. choir’s one of the awesome things at Lake Elementary,
now let’s hear about something that’s not going great at Lake Elementary.
thanks for that amazing story, hi I’m Evan and I’ll be talking about recycling
at Lake Elementary, hi I’m Georgia we think that there has been some confusion
with recycling the fortunately if you do not recycle properly it can actually
lead to other problems guess what we here at Lake Elementary have been having
some problems with our recycling, can you believe it? yeah I’ve heard that things
that can’t be recycled are getting put into the recycling cans in the halls and
your classrooms there are black trash camps and blue recycling bins here are
some guidelines for recycling papers newspapers magazines brown bags plastic
water bottles and cardboard can be recycled yep those items can go
into the recycling bins but things like plastic bags candy wrappers food plastic
wrap or foam cannot be recycled, did you hear that part?
no plastic bags candy wrappers or foam in the recycling bins and for sure
please don’t put any food in the reycling bins. recycling is important because
it helps our environment you can help by recycling and remembering these three
steps step number one reduce, step number two reuse, step number three
recycle. we can do this guy’s I’m going to be checking in with mr.
Scott to see how we’re doing with recycling the appropriate items in our
recycling bins I can’t wait to report back that we are
helping our school and our planet. sea turtles inhabit most of the oceans and
use beaches to lay their eggs trash on the beach can make it difficult for
hatchlings to make it back to the ocean or for the mom to get to her nest lights
can also make Turtles go the wrong direction because they think it is their
moon and follow the light once they are in the water they can get caught in
plastic which will drown them or cause a wound they also can eat plastic they
cannot try digest fishing hooks can also get caught in their throats and nets can
entangle them are you wondering what you can do to help the sea turtles and other
marine life you can use reusable bags sea turtles mistake plastic bags for
jellyfish and eat them so reducing the number of plastic bags can help using
paper straws that can be recycled will keep plastic straws out of the ocean the
plastic shawls get launched and their turtles noses and block their breathing
if you go to the beach be sure to clean up your trash including plastic water
bottles and use reuse reusable water bottles instead move beach chairs and
knock down your sandcastles before you leave the beach so that the turtles have
a clear path to build nests if you can follow these steps and reduce reuse and
recycle you can keep her oceans clean save our oceans. hi I’m Connor
speaking of oceans did you know that the pilgrims sailed to America? welcome and
I’m Jaret if you couldn’t tell I’m going to tell you about things
I don’t know about you but I love Thanksgiving. the first Thanksgiving
started out with the pilgrims. Thanksgiving is a national holiday
celebrated in the US since 1789 the true meaning of Thanksgiving is to celebrate
the early survival of the colonists at Plymouth originally it just started out
as a harvest festival Thomas Jefferson made the choice not to celebrate it as a
holiday and it wasn’t every year that’s until Abraham Lincoln became president
in 1863 it became a federal holiday during the Civil War Abraham Lincoln proclaimed
the national day of Thanksgiving and praise our beneficent father who dwells
in the Heaven’s to be celebrated on third or fourth Thursday in November. Thanksgiving
continues to recognize the pilgrims in their gratitude for their successful
harvest in the New World what an interesting holiday. speaking of
holidays let’s hear about one we celebrated earlier this month. who knew
things giving had so much history. I didn’t good I’m Grace and we’re about to
tell you about the history of Veterans Day and I’m Nathaniel and my name is
Trista did you know that Veterans Day was
originally called Armistice Day I don’t know about you but I didn’t know that
also Veterans Day is not celebrated in Wisconsin whoa
unlike Memorial Day Veterans Veterans Day honors all veterans living or dead
in 1954 president dwight d eisenhower changed it from Armistice Day to
Veterans Day in 1971 Veterans Day was moved to the fourth Monday in October
but in 1975 it was moved back to November 11th wait
Veterans Day wasn’t always on the 11th nope
now for some interesting facts did you know that nine percent of veterans are
women, 7 million veterans served in the Vietnam War
what an amazing holiday let’s watch a video of some events we had at Lake
Elementary and Lake primary to honor our veterans thanks for joining us today
yeah that was really fun we’ll see you next time on blue streak broadcast well
except for in the halls but anyways this is Brooke I’m violet Mia here Ava Hanna
this is Georgia it’s Jaret, bye, it’s Dez, Connor, Emma Lexi, out Signing Off!
