Adwords News – Standard Text Ads Phased Out


this video is called AdWords news on 19th jan and it is regarding standard text ads being phased out AdWords have put a communication out with a reminder that you should get a transition to expanded text ads before january 31st and you’ll only be able to create and edit text ads using the expanded text ads format you’re not going to be able to create standard text ads while this will be the last date to create them existing standard text ads will continue to serve so essentially it’s a recommendation that you should already be using expanded text ads we’ve done a video on how to migrate your whole account to expanded text ads in a very quick amount of time and i will link that video in the description below, part of the communication is regarding AdWords best practices as a reminder they have stated that you should implement multiple versions of your ads and you should be aiming for at least three to five ads per ad group whilst you’re creating the new ads you should leave your existing text ads running so that they can be reviewed before approval and you should optimize your ad rotation for clicks or conversions quite counterintuitive to at least some of what i have previously been recommended to do which is rotate the ads evenly for a period of time and then optimize so basically AdWords are saying if you’re not using ad rotation for clicks or conversions then you’re not actually adhering to AdWords best practices you should test your headlines rather than your description as they’re the most important part of your ads if you focus on segment and then click type at all you’ll see that most people do click on the headlines more than anything else that includes the extensions consider shorter headlines for on things like brand terms and add terms from user queries from the SQR and your keywords in your longer headlines whenever appropriate so it’s just essentially a reminder that you’re not gonna be able to create standard text ads after january 31st really i think after this communication they will actually set another date probably six months or maybe a year from now stating that they’ll stop running altogether most likely due to a low quality score or low click-through rate but i would suppose that they’ll be quite far into the future so yeah just a reminder and you can visit us at ethicalmarketingservice.co.uk if you’re interested in AdWords management and thanks again for listening
