4 Tips for Your Content Marketing Strategy


today I want to give you four tips on
content marketing strategy and why it matters so very much
hello my friends of the internet this is Lorri coming to you from making sense
of social media and I have been doing content marketing for businesses now for
eight years and I’ve learned a few things along the way and I’m going to
share a few of those nuggets with you today content marketing is simply as it
sounds it’s you producing and distributing content in a way that
attracts your desired and your target market and you eventually sell to them I
mean there’s more to it than that but we’re going to talk specifically about
the content side of it today the first point about content marketing and your
strategy surrounding that is the different platforms now there are so
many different social networking channels for us to use obviously there’s
Facebook which is like the Godfather of all social networks in my opinion you
have Twitter you have LinkedIn you have Instagram you have medium you have
blogging you have YouTube there’s and those are just the main ones those are
the ones that the majority of people talk about there’s other things too
Reddit and Pinterest and a whole myriad of things that I don’t even use because
I just don’t the different platforms each represent a different set of
eyeballs essentially different types of people spend their time on those
different social networks so it really boils down to a couple of things knowing
who your target market is down to the finest detail if at all possible and
where they spend their time there’s a bit of a juxtaposition with this because
yes you need to know who your target audience is and where they spend their time
however you don’t know who you’re missing out on if you’re not
distributing to a certain channel so for example if you refuse to go on Twitter
for your own purposes you really don’t know who you’re going to be missing out
on you could potentially be missing out on I don’t know a
contract of some sort or an ideal client or you know some someone that you just
never thought or considered would spend time on Twitter that’s the only place
that they spend their time when it comes to social media so my strategy is to use
all of the social networks but I use them all differently it’s important to
produce content that is going to be most advantageous to that specific platform
so say for example LinkedIn LinkedIn is huge with video now so I’ve been making
far more video than ever before for LinkedIn I don’t necessarily do short
text posts anymore I’ll do I’ll make a quick video on my phone in vertical
format and I’ll post that to LinkedIn when it comes to Twitter short text
messages are best you can add images but that’s native to that platform that is
what is preferred every platform has its own algorithm so knowing every platforms
content style preference is really really important video is obviously huge
across the majority of the platforms but again it you have to make sure to marry
it with your style and your brand and the way you like to present your message
to your fans and your followers and your readers so you know it’s it’s not so
much about just creating something and putting it out there throwing it against the wall and seeing if it sticks but you
I would recommend coming up with a detailed strategy of what type of
content you’re going to post on which platform now that brings me to my third
point of the content marketing strategy today and that is how frequently do you
post I get this question probably more than any other question how often should
I post and what time of day should I post there are so many
variables to answering this question right now more is better
so in following with the trends that are happening now quality obviously is
what’s most important but quantity is a little bit important too so my strategy
and what I adhere to currently it could change in a week it could not I’m not
sure yet but I currently post at minimum once per day on the main platforms that
being Instagram Facebook business page LinkedIn and I typically do a number of
tweets throughout the day it really depends on knowing who your audience is
knowing what they need and knowing what they expect of you and their
expectations of you are based on what you’ve already been doing in the past so
a number of times per day you know again that’s up to you how much time do you
have to produce content I’m not sure maybe you need someone to help you
produce content and know someone and as far as when into post I like to follow
insights not everybody does and again it’s it all comes back so much to
knowing who your audience is so if you have a local audience you can post
according to the insights of when you know they’ll be online there are
insights in Instagram and on Facebook and on Twitter and you know you can
follow those guidelines to know when is the most advantageous time for you to
post that’s something I would highly recommend that you start doing and my
fourth tip for you today in regards to content strategy is really at the end of
the day what is most important here what is most important for your content
marketing strategy is engagement you’re creating and distributing content for no
reason if you’re not going to be getting some engagement back so that lands on
your lap that’s your responsibility are you creating content that is attractive
that is inspiring and uplifting and education
maybe edgy and maybe funny and you know what is your brand what is your message
that is up to you but it needs to be something that stirs emotion and people
that makes them think that gives them a reason to want to reach out to you and
talk to you and that comes in the form of a comment or a DM or what have you
that responsibility lands in your lap to make that type of engaging content those
are my four main tips for you for your content marketing strategy knowing which
platforms to be on long form or short form imagery or video how many times are
you going to be posting per week and at what times of the day and then of course
making your content engaging if you are in need of more of an overall social
